Here are the top stories in Providence today:
- Providence's Christopher Columbus statue will remain under wraps and hidden away until sometime in the new year. The statue was removed from its pedestal in the Elmwood section of the city in June 2020, following repeated vandalism, and placed in storage. The Committee for Commemorative Works is recommending the statue be sold, and the cash be invested in the community. (WJAR)
- The City of Providence is accepting nominations now through Dec. 13 for the 19th annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Individuals are welcome to nominate local individuals who have made meaningful contributions to social justice in the City of Providence. Nominees must be a resident of Providence or have accomplished a significant amount of community work in Providence. (GoLocalProv)
- Providence police made two arrests in connection with a deadly shooting that took place inside a Broad Street restaurant back in September. (WPRI.com)
