Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. A couple used their wedding deposit to say thank-you to health care workers at Women and Infants. Bryan Rippee and Alyxandra Rodriquez had been offered a $5,000.00 credit from their catering company, Russell Morin Catering, after they cancelled their wedding due to the pandemic, which was supposed to be June 5, 2021. The couple decided they would use their deposit to have Morin’s cater lunch for the staff at Women and Infants, as a way to thank health care workers for all their hard work and dedication. (WJAR)
  2. Rhode Island's Office of Cannabis Regulation ran a lottery to select five medical marijuana dispensaries. State regulators had vetted the applicants and narrowed the field to 23 finalists for the five compassion center licenses that were ultimately chosen Friday like lottery numbers, with a blindfolded staffer picking the winning numbers. The OCR said the winning applicants would receive instructions to complete the licensing process later Friday or early next week and have nine months become fully licensed. (WJAR)
  3. On Thursday, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza cut the ribbon for a controversial South Water Street bike lane. (Press Release Desk)
