Here are the top stories in Providence today:
- A 52-year-old Providence man died in a crash on I-95 South on Monday morning. According to police, Roger A. Hall lost control of his vehicle just before the Thurbers Avenue exit, hitting the jersey barrier in the center median. A second vehicle in the high-speed lane was unable to stop before hitting the passenger side of Hall’s vehicle. Hall was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. (WPRI.com)
- A Providence city clerk has resigned from his position, ahead of a removal hearing that was slated to take place this week. Shawn Selleck, who has been the city clerk since 2019, was accused by three deputy clerks of aggressive and confrontational behavior. A previous investigation commissioned by City Council found he violated several city policies, prompting the council to initiate removal proceeding. Selleck called the process political, accusing Council President John Igliozzi of seeking to oust him in favor of a clerk that would “further his political interests.” (WPRI.com)
