Here are the top stories in Providence today:

  1. The Lincoln School on Providence's east side is taking down one of its most visible landmarks. For the safety of the campus and the community, Lincoln School's beloved copper beech tree is scheduled to be removed this Wednesday. After years of care and stewardship, the tree finally succumbed to pervasive infestations common to beech trees. (GoLocalProv)
  2. Students at Brown University united to take a hands-on, DIY approach to improving air quality at the school. In a Friday event, the School of Public Health taught students how to use four MERV 13 filters and a box fan to quickly and easily assemble an inexpensive device powerful enough to filter out particles carrying the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The air cleaner, also known as a Corsi-Rosenthal cube, is currently in use in classrooms and conference rooms in the School of Public Health to support filtration measures implemented in the early days of the pandemic. (Brown University)
  3. A local man has been arrested for robbing the Happy Mart on Eddy St. — twice in one day. (The Providence Journal)
