Here are the top stories today in Providence:
- Police responded to reports of shots fired on Tuesday night at Julian St. and Amherst St., just off of Atwells Ave. A van nearby was found to have two rounds in the driver's side door and a house on Julian St. had numerous rounds go into the second floor apartment. No injuries were reported and police are currently investigating. (GoLocalProv)
- Rhode Island College and The Community College of Rhode Island are both looking to raise their tuition amid enrollment declines. On Wednesday night, RIC President Frank Sánchez asked the Rhode Island Council on Post-Secondary Education to allow an increase in tuition of 2.5%, which would cost an additional $264 per in-state student and $598 per out-of-state state student. CCRI wants to raise tuition by 2.2%, which means an additional $100 for in-state students each year and an additional $10 to go toward a “technology fee.” (WPRI.com)
- Providence police have identified the victim of Oct. 12 Broad St. laundromat homicide as 38-year-old Melvin Ricardo Perez Reyes. (GoLocalProv)
- The Providence Zoning Board of Review unanimously rejected the paving company, The Narragansett Improvement Co., in their continued use of a leased portside Allens Ave. site for the storage and processing of concrete, stone, aggregate, and asphalt. (ecoRI news)
