Here are the top stories today in Providence:
- City council has voted to allot $25K to repair the Kevin Robinson Memorial Skate Park in East Providence. The park was installed by the East Providence native in 2016 but has fallen into disrepair in recent years due to weather. Robinson, nicknamed K-Rob, died in 2017 of a stroke. As a widowed mother of three, his wife Robin Robinson said she couldn’t afford the repairs and her husband’s foundation has already exhausted its funds. (WPRI.com)
- A class of Providence 5th graders were chosen to make ornaments for the National Christmas Tree at the White House. Fogarty Middle School’s art teacher Lucas Lundgren says he got the call in October that his school was picked; however, he was told to keep it a secret. The National Parks Foundation says students from 58 schools across the nation and abroad are picked to help decorate the tree, which will be up through Jan. 1. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- North Providence will begin assessing school building needs, thanks to a recent $100,000 grant from the Rhode Island Department of Education. (Valley Breeze)
- Providence has awarded $495,000 to Crossroads Rhode Island to support a new citywide mobile diversion program for Providence residents experiencing unsheltered homelessness. (Providence Business News)
- On Wednesday, The Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families held their seventh annual meeting alongside a virtual award presentation. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
