Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. Two men have been sentenced in federal court in Providence for their roles in a lottery scam. On Tuesday, Jason Wedderburn was sentenced to three years behind bars, along with Kayan Kitson who was sentenced last month to two and a half years. The scam defrauded mostly older residents of several states, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts, out of more than $700,000. (WPRI.com)
  2. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will begin implementing new lane shifts along Interstate 95 north and south in Providence on Thursday night, as a part of the department's ongoing $265 million Providence Viaduct Northbound project. Lane closures will be in effect on I-95 south on Thursday and I-95 north on Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. All lanes on I-95 in the area of the Smith Street and Charles Street overpasses will shift to the left and barriers will be installed to separate traffic taking Exit 23 to Route 146 from I-95 north.   3. Police are investigating a possible homicide after a woman in her 30s was brought to the Rhode Island Hospital emergency room on Wednesday morning. (WPRI.com)
