Here are the top stories today in Providence:
- Olneyville New York System has debuted a new, yet still iconic, sign after the old one was taken down in July. The owner of the popular hot wiener joint intended to refurbish the original sign, but had to change course when he learned it had deteriorated to the point where it would’ve been impossible to hang back up. The new sign was created by Providence Painted Signs to match its predecessor as closely as possible. (WPRI.com)
- Two Rhode Islanders have been reported for failing to pay their landlords federal rental assistance received through RentReliefRI. According to RI Housing, which runs RentReliefRI, the two tenants were reported to the U.S. Treasury for violating their contract by failing to pay their landlord within seven days of receiving the money. The U.S. Treasury can ban those tenants from receiving any future federal assistance for violating the agreement. (WJAR)
- The Rhode Island Foundation will match donations made by the public to Trinity Repertory Company during its 2021 run of “A Christmas Carol” with an equal grant to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, up to a total of $60,000. (Valley Breeze)
- A resolution has been found for the rat infestation that has been plaguing North Providence, with immediate action via a letter to be sent out to violators. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- Fire Flowers and a Time Machine will be streaming from the Wilbury Theatre beginning Dec. 16 through Jan. 1. (What'sUpNewp)
