Here are the top five stories in Providence today:
- A child in foster care, in Providence, died Friday. State officials are investigating the circumstances of the death. The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families told WPRI 12 they are awaiting the results of the an autopsy. (Providence Patch)
- Jose Silva, 36, has been missing since Friday and Providence police are seeking the public's help in finding him. He is reportedly described as a Hispanic male, about 5-feet, 9-inches tall and 180 pounds. He has long, straight brown hair in a ponytail and was wearing a black jacket, jeans and black sneakers. Silva has a large dragon tattoo on his right arm and also has tattoos on his left arm. If you have seen him please contact the Providence Police.(The Providence Journal)
- With huge cost overruns for its facility near the Port of Providence, National Grid, which is aiming to bring the Fields Point liquefied natural gas plant into operation this summer, is poised to ask gas customers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to pay. The company reportedly says it will pick up more than 90% of the overruns so the impact on ratepayers will be minimal. (The Providence Journal)
- Darwin J. Gonzalez Reyes, 36, of Providence has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling fentanyl and heroin. Prosecutors said in June 2019, Reyes delivered 200 grams of fentanyl to a person. Two months later, he delivered 300 grams of fentanyl and 40 grams of heroin to the same person. In addition to his prison sentence, Reyes will serve five years of supervised release. (Patch)
- Author and former director of the Rhode Island Department of Health, Dr. Michael Fine flew to Europe last month to help Ukrainians fleeing the war. In Medyka, Fine and colleagues, in conjunction with the organization called Humanity First, are working from an impromptu field hospital, to provide care to refugees who arrive by foot and on bus. " We must prevent a Putin victory,” Fine reportedly said. (Providence Journal)
