Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. Meghan Cowl and Abbie Wiinikainen, of Providence College, were on their way home after a night out at their favorite bar when they were ambushed by a group of young men. The Providence College seniors were with both of their mothers at the time, who were visiting for parent’s weekend. The young women were attacked and assaulted but did not get a good look at their assailants. (WPRI.com)
  2. Opponents of the South Water Street Trail project are doubling down on their efforts to halt construction now that it is underway. But it appears their last-ditch attempt has fallen flat.
    In a letter to the Department of Transportation last week, critics said that while they do not oppose the bike path that is part of the plan, they do not support narrowing the road to one lane for vehicles. (The Providence Journal)
  3. Ricci Middle School students are building 'Buddy Benches' for every North Providence school in honor of their friend. (Valley Breeze)
