Here are the top five stories in Providence today:
- Employers in Providence are looking to fill openings on their staff. Are you looking for a job in the area? (Providence Patch)
- The victim in a fatal Providence hit and run over the weekend has been identified as Violet Barracks, 76, who lived next to the intersection she was crossing when she was hit and killed. Barracks was pronounced dead at the scene. She is the aunt of state Rep. Marcia R. Ranglin-Vassell and Lisa Ranglin, CEO and founder of the R.I. Black Business Association. Both women and other family members are calling for restoring a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection. The driver of the pickup that hit Barracks was Domingo Grave-Castro, 40, of Providence. He turned himself into Providence Police. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting. (The Providence Journal)

- A stabbing occurred in Providence on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. outside an Eddy Street gas station. A man was reportedly stabbed in the neck with a broken beer bottle. His girlfriend said the event happened after her boyfriend was asked for a cigarette. Police do have a suspect in custody but the identity of the suspect has not been released yet. (WPRI.com)
- According to a press release from the city of Providence, Mayor Jorge O. Elorza has proposed a $567,341,359 municipal budget for the Fiscal Year 2023. The budget continues critical investments in youth, city services and infrastructure, and improves the quality of life for every resident and business. The full proposed FY23 budget is posted online at openbudget.providenceri.gov and is subject to approval by the Providence City Council. (Press Release Desk)
