Here are the top five stories today in Providence:
- With gas prices soaring a new program in Rhode Island is encouraging drivers to consider alternative options and offering New Electric Vehicle Rebates. Rebates are expected to become available by summer and will be funded by an initial commitment of $1.25 million from the state's Office of Energy Resources. (Patch)
- The City Of Providence Announces the 2022 Street Sweeping Schedule for neighborhoods and business corridors. Residents are encouraged to view the Street Sweeping Schedule on the Providence Department of Public Works website. The schedule is subject to change due to weather and staffing. (Press Release Desk)
- The Rhode Island Music Education Association (RIMEA) has gathered thousands of signatures on a petition calling schools to include arts education in Rhode Island Graduation Requirements. “The research is clear. The arts, as core academic subjects, have their own intrinsic value...,” said David Neves, RIEMA Advocacy Co-Chair. (GoLocalProv)
- Protesting what they are calling ‘nothing but broken promises’ Providence teachers took to the streets Monday afternoon to march for change. They are demanding the state end its takeover of the capital city’s school district. (WPRI.com)
- What will the next signature Rhode Island license plate look like? That's up to you. The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles unveiled potential successors to the “wave plate” on Monday, and is encouraging the public to vote on their favorite by March 28. (The Providence Journal)
