Here are the top stories today in Providence:
- A rat infestation drove two North Providence families out of their home and into a hotel on Sunday night. The homeowner, Dale Rankin, his family, and his tenants say they left their house on Sadler Street after rats were found inside their home, including a pregnant rat that had nested. Rankin has been voicing concerns to the town for the past year and a half about rats coming from the Woonasquatucket River due to contamination. (WJAR)
- A car slammed into a home on Federal Street in Providence on Sunday night. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. and left the car wedged between the home and a tree when it came to a stop. The car and the foundation of the home under the front door were both damaged and it's unclear if there were any injuries. (WPRI.com)
- Penguins from Mystic Aquarium will serve as 'celebrity lighters' for the Big Blue Bug lighting ceremony on Monday evening to kick off the holiday season. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- Lifespan is hiring students as temporary workers to assist with the reduced number of general staff at Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Miriam Hospital caused by the pandemic. (The Brown Daily Herald)
- 36-year-old Francisco Vega, of Providence, will serve 14 years in state prison for possession of illegal guns and fentanyl. (WJAR)
