Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. Police are investigating after somebody fired at least 14 shots at the side of a home at 10 Herschel St. early Wednesday morning. Among those inside the home was a 19-year-old Providence woman, who was sleeping next to her newborn baby when she was awakened as gunshots passed through her headboard. Two other people were also inside the home, a 42-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy. (The Providence Journal)
  2. The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will be reopening its Riverside shelter earlier than expected this week. The shelter was scheduled to be temporarily closed for 10 days due to zoonotic illnesses, but will now reopen on Thursday. The RISPCA says all adoptions through Oct. 31 will be processed with a promotional $25 adoption fee due to support received from the Bissell Foundation. (WJAR)
  3. A Providence College graduate, Conor Holway, screened his new film “Apple Cinema” at Providence Place Cinemas on Wednesday Night. (GoLocalProv)
  4. An Oct. 30 Halloween at the Castle party on the West Side will raise funds for Barnaby Castle mansion restorations. (Rhode Island Monthly)
