Here are the top stories in Providence today:

  1. Democrat Sam Zurier won by a landslide victory in a special Providence Senate election on Tuesday. Zurier will represent District 3 in the Rhode Island Senate after winning 90% of the vote over his GOP opponent Alex Cannon, according to unofficial results. Zurier succeeds former state Sen. Gayle Goldin, who resigned over the summer to take a job with the Biden administration. (WPRI.com)
  2. 12 people have been displaced after a fire destroyed a Providence triple-decker on Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to Douglas Avenue near Virginia Lane around 6:30 a.m., where smoke and flames could be seen coming from the third floor and the roof of the home. The flames were quickly extinguished but Deputy Assistant Chief Stephen Houle says all three floors of the house are unhabitable. The American Red Cross has been called to help assist ten adults and two children. (WPRI.com)
  3. The man arrested in a Providence homicide, Johan Quinones, was being represented by John Cicilline on separate gun charges. (GoLocalProv)

  5. A Providence liquor store was robbed at gunpoint and a carjacking was reported at Cumberland Farms on Tuesday Night. (GoLocalProv)
