🌱Sex Offender Arrested + Vandals Go On Spree Of Smashing Car Windows

Here are the top five stories today in Providence:

  1. Convicted sex offender, Shawn Turgeon, 54, of Providence, was charged with enticement of a child, failure to register as a sex offender, and possession of cocaine after an incident on Tuesday, which involved him allegedly trying to entice a 14-year-old girl to help him find his lost dog, according to Providence Police. The victim is "fortunate, and we're grateful" said Providence Police Commander Thomas Verdi. Reportedly, a witness flagged down the police. (The Providence Journal)
  2. Vandals have been reportedly been smashing windows and taking valuables from cars in the neighborhoods surrounding Johnson and Wales University (JWU), leaving shards of glass all over the place and residents on edge. JWU is warning students to remain on high alert. A JWU spokesperson said in a statement, the university is “encouraging the community to report any suspicious activity and exercise caution when parking downtown.”(WPRI.com)
  3. The family of cancer patient Curtis Starks, who is at Bannister Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care has filed a formal complaint with the Rhode Island Department of Health, accusing the facility of neglect. Stark claims that there have been times when he has been forced to sit in his own fifth until a family member has come to clean him up. His family will be bringing him home, however, they are concerned about the treatment of other patients. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  4. Teacher recruitment and retention was a big part of the discussion Wednesday as the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) went before the House Committee on Education. RIDE outlined its statewide job platform to promote the teaching profession and highlight Rhode Island, in hopes of attracting more educators. (WPRI.com)
  5. Wonderland on Allens in Providence, a gentleman’s club, has reopened after a shooting took place in the parking lot over the weekend. The club was temporarily closed until Tuesday morning and the police department’s investigation found there was no threat to the public. (WPRI.com)
