Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. On Friday, Mayor Jorge O. Elorza and members of the Providence City Council launched a COVID-19 Small Business Relief Program. The program is designed to provide microgrants to businesses throughout the City of Providence and support economic recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants of $2,500 will be offered to over 2,700 qualified businesses using nearly $7 million of the federal American Rescue Plan relief dollars. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire inside a masonry building at 56 Judith St. in Providence on Saturday afternoon. Deputy Fire Chief Mahoney said the crew was unable to attack the flames from the inside due to “extensive hoarding.” The building was vacant at the time of the fire and is no longer safe to enter.   3. Multiple people were shot inside the Providence nightclub, Club Revel, early Sunday morning. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  4. As of Friday, Collyer St. remains closed to vehicular traffic, but open to pedestrian travel. (Press Release Desk)
  5. The man accused of beating a couple in Providence in 2015, Viden Chhoeum, is heading to trial on Monday. (WJAR)
