Scoops Opens for its Second Spring

Warming temperatures draw crowds, inspire impromptu seasonal start.

Business was good Friday afternoon at Scoops, thanks to a combination of warming weather and a day out of school for local kids for Good Friday.

The afternoon was the second of the season for owner Stephanie Parker, who didn't intend to open so soon, but re-assessed when she came in to work to prepare for the spring and saw people milling around the 265 Putnam Pike shop. "I was in here cleaning and I had the ice cream in the cabinets," Parker said.

So she opened her doors, and business has been good. She attributed it to the day off from school. "I think that's helping me out, for sure," Parker said.

Outside, Hummux Callahan was enjoying Parker's ice cream with his three grandchildren: Devon, Nathan and Rose. They had just gotten done visiting the Rock Shop and were relaxing sans coats with ice cream in dishes and cones.

Parker said her customers won't have to wander around waiting for her to open next year. She's planning to add some things to the business model to draw customers during the cold months, too: candy and t-shirts, among other items. "I closed for five months and I don't want to do that again," she said.
