Smithfield Man Indicted on Rape Charge

SMITHFIELD, RI—A 33-year-old Smithfield man has been indicted on charges of first-degree sexual assault, domestic strangulation and domestic simple assault by the Providence County Grand Jury.

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin said Friday that the Christopher Gildea, of 11 River St., Smithfield, allegedly sexually and physically assaulted a woman with whom he was in a domestic relationship on June 11 of 2015.

The alleged crime occurred in Smithfield and Smithfield police arrested Gildea on the same day, according to court records.

Gildea is currently free on bail and is due to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Dec. 30.
