Smithfield Police Invite Public To Comment On Re-accreditation Bid
Comments in person an via phone limited to 10 minutes.

The Smithfield Police Department is working to get re-accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), and you can be part of it Nov. 11.
As part of the on-site assessment for the re-accreditation, agency employees and members of the community have been invited to offer comments at a public information session at 7 p.m. at the Smithfield Senior Center, 1 William J. Hawkins, Jr. Trail.

CALEA, the only internationally recognized public safety accrediting body, requires agencies to meet their standards in four basic areas; policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
11 law enforcement members and 10 members who are public officials and private citizens.

People can also comment by calling 401-233-1025 on Monday, Nov. 12, from 1 and 3 p.m. Telephone comments and at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the Standards is available for viewing at the Smithfield Police Department.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Smithfield Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc.
