Smithfield Recreation's Seven Scenic Walks: Mowry Conservation Area
Trail offers wonders natural and man-made.
If spring fever is taking hold, Smithfield's Conservation Commission has the answer for your warm weather wanderlust: "Seven Scenic Walks In Smithfield", a .pdf trail guide to local conservation areas.
First on their list is Mowry Conservation Area along Old Forge Road between Farnum Pike(Route 104) and Log Road, just north of Stump Pond.

According to author Ken Weber, the 44-acre area includes a "lively" trout stream, hemlocks and pine trees, a foot bridge, picnic tables, a walking trail and an old earthen stone dam.
For letterboxing enthusiasts, the trail also offers one of the hidden parcels to be found by intrepid explorers. Check out the clues to "Puzzled," designed to educate seekers about autism.

Autism, according to autismspeaks.org, is a general term for a group of complex disorders of brain development. The disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
