2 Tiverton Police Officers Rescue Elderly Man From House Fire

According to Tiverton fire officials, the fire started around 7:15 p.m. Friday at a home on Stafford Road. Fire officials said there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.

TIVERTON, RI — Two Tiverton police officers rescued an elderly man from a house fire on Friday night, police said.

According to fire officials, the fire started around 7:15 p.m. at a home on Stafford Road. Fire officials said there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.

Firefighters had the fire extinguished quickly, according to officials. No injuries were reported, thanks to two police officers getting an elderly resident out of the home.

"We want to recognize Officers Devon Tate and Cameron Williams who were first on scene of this fire on Stafford Road last night," Tiverton police said in a statement. "Officers Tate and Williams did not hesitate to enter the smoke filled residence and carried an elderly gentleman who requires the assistance of a walker to safety. We also want to recognize and thank our colleagues at the Tiverton Fire Department for their immediate response in quickly bringing this fire under control to prevent further risk to lives and property."

The Fall River Fire Department provided mutual aid during the fire.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
