Acushnet Man IDed As Victim Of Tiverton Crash

Speed and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the serious crash on Crandall Road, police said.

TIVERTON, RI — An Acushnet, Massachusetts man died in a crash on Tiverton's Crandall Road Friday afternoon, police said. The victim was later identified 63-year-old Michael Guidry.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Crandall Rd. At the time, police did not release any details, saying only that a serious crash was delaying traffic in the area.

Only one vehicle was involved in the crash, a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck. When emergency responders arrived, the truck was on the front lawn of 798 Crandall Rd. with heavy front-end damage, police said. Guidry was slumped over in the driver's seat, unconscious. He was rushed to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No one else was in the truck.

Police determined that Guidry was headed north when his truck left the road and crashed into a telephone pole, before veering back onto the road for about 400 feet. It then swerved off the road again, hitting a stone wall and a tree before landing in the yard. Alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors in the crash, police said, adding that it is possible Guidry suffered from a medical emergency.

The crash closed Crandall Road from King Road to Narrow Avenue for several hours as crews worked to repair the damaged pole.
