Man Who Shot At Ex-Girlfriend, Infant In LA Arrested In Tiverton: Police

TIVERTON, RI — A Massachusetts man, who was wanted in Louisiana after violating his probation for shooting at a car with four people in it, including his ex-girlfriend and an infant, was arrested Friday in Tiverton, according to police.

Police said Christian Baez, 21, of Fall River, Massachusetts, had a nationwide extradition warrant on him for violating his probation related to an aggravated assault.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana charged Baez with four counts of attempted second-degree murder. Authorities said in 2021, Baez shot at a card with his ex-girlfriend, an infant and two others inside. He was later convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm in that matter.

Tiverton police said they found Baez around 4:25 p.m. after pulling him over for driving the wrong way on Canonicus Street. Baez told officers he left Louisiana weeks before his arrest and traveled to Massachusetts, where he was residing.

Tiverton police charged Baez with fugitive from justice, a one-way violation, and driving with a suspended license. He was ordered held without bail and was transferred to the Rhode Island Department of Corrections in Cranston. He was scheduled to appear in Newport Second District Court on Monday.
