Cranston Man Killed In Head-On Crash: Cops

Three others were injured, police said.

WARWICK, RI — A Cranston man was killed and three other motorists injured in a head-on collision in Warwick Saturday afternoon, police said.

Michael Perry, 61, drove his Hyundai Kona into oncoming traffic and collided with a Volvo SUV shortly 2 p.m. in the 700 block of Post Road, according to a media release from the Warwick Police Department.

The Volvo had stopped for a red light and was just moving forward when it turned green at the time of the crash, the release said. The impact pushed it back into a Honda Civic that was following it.

"The collision occurred in front of Warwick Fire Station 2 allowing for rescue personnel to be immediately on scene, the release said.

All four motorists involved in the crash — Perry, the driver of the Volvo, the driver of the Honda Civic and a passenger in the Civic — were injured and taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, police said.

Perry was pronounced dead less than a half hour after the crash, according to the release.

"The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is currently investigating the cause of the crash, including the possibility of a medical episode preceding the collision," the release said.
