📰 News we're reading

1. Wanted California Woman Captured After Warwick Crash: Cops (patch.com) — A California woman wanted on fraud-related charges was taken into custody after state troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Warwick. Police say the arrest of the Baldwin Park resident is tied to a Cranston case involving more than $10,000 in alleged fraudulent activity, and she was later turned over to Cranston police.

2. Telehealth pilot program to assist Warwick officers with crisis calls (wpri.com) — Warwick police are rolling out a new MyCare telehealth program that lets officers instantly connect people in crisis with mental health clinicians via tablet, starting in early February. Backed by a federal grant and partnering with Thrive Behavioral Health, the pilot aims to shorten response times, reduce unnecessary hospitalizations, and give Warwick residents faster, more compassionate support during mental health emergencies.

3. RI Veterans: Did you know? 08.01.26 (Desert Shield/Storm, Local Events, Resources) - John A. Cianci (rinewstoday.com) — Desert Shield/Storm veterans will gather in Warwick on January 17 for a 35th‑anniversary reunion at Tri-City Elks on West Shore Road, with a social and memorial service. The column also highlights Warwick-based veteran events, free meals, benefits, and support resources available to local veterans and their families in the coming weeks.

4. Magaziner: Funding Bill Aids Warwick Police Communications (warwickpost.com) — Warwick residents could soon see better police radio coverage thanks to $800,000 in federal funding proposed for new portable radios and scanners. The House-passed package, championed by Rep. Seth Magaziner, also backs emergency upgrades in West Warwick, Foster, Cranston, and Westerly, but still needs Senate approval before the Warwick communications improvements move forward.
