CVS Laying Off More Than 500 Workers At Rhode Island Offices: Report
The layoffs include nearly 200 people who live and work in Rhode Island, while the others work remotely but report to those offices.

WOONSOCKET, RI — Hundreds of CVS Health employees will be laid off at the company's corporate offices in Woonsocket and Cumberland beginning Oct. 21, according to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
According to the worker adjustment and retraining notification (WARN) report, CVS Health told the department Friday 198 workers who live and work in Rhode Island would be laid off.
But the number of people losing their jobs is much higher. In total, more than 500 people will be laid off when remote employees who report to the Woonsocket and Cumberland offices are factored in, WPRI 12 reported.

The news comes after CVS Health announced it would be laying off 5,000 workers across the United States. Those layoffs were not expected to include employees working in the stores, pharmacies, clinics, or customer service centers, Mike DeAngelis, the executive director of corporate communications for CVS, told Patch. But in 2021, the company announced plans to close 900 stores within three years.
