Fireballs, Music, a Bazaar and Veterans Honored This Weekend

With the weather in Woonsocket and the area forecast for high 40s or low 50s and cloudy weather, you can ditch the sunglasses, but better bring a jacket for your weekend adventures.

Great Balls of Fire - Earth-Sky.org reports the South Taurids meteor shower peaked Monday night and Tuesday morning, but peak doesn't mean finished. It's still possible to see a few meteors until Nov. 25, so take a little time to look up this weekend, and you may be rewarded — Taurids are known for 'fireballs,' or exceptionally bright meteors.

Music at Chan's - Start your weekend Friday with Luther 'Guitar Jr.' Johnson, when the Grammy winning blues legend returns to Chans, 267 Main St. This Master of Chicago blues always moves the crowd. On Saturday, check out Grammy-nominated guitarist Jon Butcher's rock, r&b, Jazz and folk. You can buy tickets online, starting at $10 for Johnson and $25 for Butcher, at the restaurant's website.

Stadium Tributes - Dual musical tribute experiences are available at Stadium Theater at 28 Monument Square this weekend. On Friday, see the Neil Diamond tribute, Simply Diamond, (tickets start at $26) or, on Saturday, enjoy the Billy Joel tribute, "Songs in the Attic" (tickets start at $21).

Holiday Bazaar - If you're looking for something to keep you busy during the day Saturday, you can stop by St. Charles Borromeo Church on North Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several crafters and vendors are expected to participate.

Veterans Day - On Monday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, a national holiday set aside to honor servicemen and women who have served in the armed forces. This year, Woonsocket's celebration returns to the Museum of Work and Culture, 42 South Main St. at 10 a.m.

This year, the ceremony will focus on World War II, with speakers, a flag raising ceremony, playing of taps and a moment of silence.

Richard Schatz, President of the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket and Veterans Agent Ernest Boisvert will attend, and all the city's veterans are invited. So are you.

The Museum will be open after the ceremony, with regular admission: $6, kids and seniors, $8 for adults.
