Woonsocket Weekend: Greenway Challenge, New England Talent

Sure signs of fall this weekend include the Rustic closing and a twist on the triathlon.

If you just can't wait for Halloween [five weeks to go, people], check out any of the spooky walks near Woonsocket to get your scream on.

On Saturday, see some die-hard athletes take to the road and the river in the Greenway Challenge, starting in Worcester and ending in nearby Lincoln, RI. 

This year's 52.7-mi. route includes 26.5 mi. split between two paved bike routes, another 5.5 mi. on a mountain bike course, 5.1 mi. over two stages on the Blackstone River and 6.1 mi. on foot.

The 2012 event drew some 500 challengers; see who shows up beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. 

Race begins at 9 a.m., post-race festivities expected around 4 p.m. at the Kelly House, Lower River Road, Lincoln.

To check out some homegrown talent, head up to Woonsocket, where Stadium Theatre hosts a New England's Got Talent show on Saturday night at 7. 

The Rhode Show's Meaghan Mooney hosts the face-off among several performers from around the region.

Online tickets are $16. Online orders require $4 additional fee.

Chan's Fine Oriental Dining imports the talent, with Brian Maes Band on Saturday night [$12, buy online] and the Commander Cody Band on Sunday [$20, buy online]. 

It's also the last weekend at the Rustic Tri-Vue Drive-In, down on Rte. 146 in Smithfield.

Here's the line-up for Sept. 27 and 28:

  • Shaun of the Dead [R] with World's End [R]
  • Insidious 2 [PG-13] with The Conjuring [R]
  • Planes [PG] with Monsters University [PG]
Special price $20 per car load. Gate opens at 6, shows start around 7:30 p.m.
