- The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has made a decision about its unused $3.8 million set aside for salaries: they'll use it to raise deputies’ salaries. The news comes after the Charleston County Council decided to table its vote on the allocation of the $3.8 million until January. With around 150 positions vacant in the office, the department is willing to increase deputies’ salaries by about 12 percent in January 2023. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- The owner of a market in West Ashley was arrested in an underage alcohol sales sting. Hussein Adbelmoteleb, 62, owns Saint's Market on Orleans Road. Investigators with the Charleston Police Department conducted a liquor law violation investigation on Oct. 14. He was booked into the county detention center with six counts of sale of beverages to persons under 21. He and another suspect were released on their own recognizance on Thursday. - Chanukah in the Square returns tomorrow! The largest annual Jewish gathering in South Carolina returns to Marion Square this weekend on Dec. 18, the first night of Chanukah. Attendees can begin to arrive around 4:00 p.m. and enjoy live entertainment, children’s activities, and treats like hot latkes and chicken soup. The event is put on by the Chabad of Charleston, the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston, and the City of Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs. (WCBD News 2)
