- Within the last two weeks, there has been an array of building issues at Charleston's Int'l African American Museum. The heating, cooling, and humidity issues have delayed the opening of the museum and are expected to be covered with funds that already have been raised. According to Spokeswoman Keisha Kirkland, the IAAM and the city of Charleston have been working with contractors to fix the problem but will not be able to resolve it in time for the scheduled Jan. 21 festivities. - The Charleston County Aviation Authority and Lowcountry Land Trust recently announced the permanent protection of a 90-acre site in the heart of Johns Island. Oakville-Burden Creek’s 90 acres were once marked for development. This follows years of collaboration through the Johns Island Community Conservation Initiative, a partnership of The Center for Heirs’ Property Preservation, Coastal Conservation League, Lowcountry Land Trust, and Open Space Institute.
