Dowtown Skatepark Plan Grinding to a Halt?
Charleston County officials say state requirements for a proposed skatepark under the Ravenel Bridge would burst the project's budget

A plan to build a 40,000-square-foot concrete skatepark under the Ravenel Bridge may be unraveling due to state Highway Department requirements.
Officials began looking for alternative sites for the proposed downtown skatepark a few months ago when it became clear that state highway department requirements for the thickness of the concrete to be used inthe park would break the County's $2 million budget for the park, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required).
Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission Executive Director Tom O'Rourke said the top alternative site is a shed on the recycling center property on Romney Street. The property allows for additional future expansion of the park, possibly including something like a climbing wall, he told the paper.
