Man Charged in Charleston Police Officer Shooting

Mark Lorenzo Blake, Jr., has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder.

A Charleston man accused of shooting a City of Charleston police officer Saturday was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday.

Mark Lorenzo Blake, Jr., 26, of 1413 Queenscastle Court, Charleston, has been
charged with one count of Attempted Murder, in connection with the
shooting of Officer Cory Goldstein March 30.

The shooting began as a traffic stop at Interstate 526 at Savannah Highway, but when the officer began chasing the suspect on foot, a gunfight erupted. Both Goldstein and Blake were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

If convicted, Black could face not more than 30 years in prison without probation or suspension, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

The case will be prosecuted by the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
