Marlon Kimpson Wins SC Senate 42 Seat

Seat vacated by Sen. Robert Ford.

Democrat Marlon Kimpson is now Senator-elect after soundly defeating his Republican and Libertarian opponents for the seat vacated by S.C. Sen. Robert Ford, according to the S.C. State Election Commission's unofficial results.

District 42 rests mostly in the North Charleston area of Charleston County.

Kimpson secured nearly 80 percent of the vote. His Republican opponent Billy Shuman earned 19 percent of the vote.

Ford vacated the seat amid ethics charges earlier this year. A special election followed to replace the former Senator.
