Charleston County libraries expand free produce program with federal grant (live5news.com) — Charleston County Public Library is expanding its free fresh-produce program to a fourth branch, North Charleston’s Keith Summey Library, after securing a $100,000 federal grant. Community fridges at several branches already offer no-questions-asked fruits and vegetables, and new funding will boost restocks and add mobile kitchen units to teach cooking and budgeting skills alongside food access.
   

2. As Charleston Tourism Surges, CofC Plans New Hospitality School (abcnews4.com) — Charleston’s booming tourism industry is prompting the College of Charleston to launch a new School of Hospitality and Tourism as early as next fall, funded by an anonymous donor. The school aims to deepen partnerships with local hotels and restaurants, expand courses and graduate programs, and train long-term leaders for the Lowcountry’s $14 billion hospitality economy.
   

3. City of Charleston hosts Sam Rittenberg Boulevard redesign meeting, to improve safety and reduce collision rates (counton2.com) — A major safety-focused redesign is coming to Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in West Ashley, with Charleston officials proposing landscaped medians, wider bike and walking paths, better lighting, and upgraded signals. After years of study and more than 2,000 recent crashes, the city is advancing 30% design plans by summer 2026 to seek funding and make this busy corridor safer and more comfortable for all travelers.
   

4. New details shed light on incident involving former College of Charleston Public Safety officer accused of assault, misconduct (counton2.com) — Charleston police have released new details about the arrest of a former College of Charleston public safety officer accused of sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman he was supposed to escort home. Investigators say witnesses intervened at the victim’s residence, documented the encounter, and the college has since suspended and then terminated the officer while cooperating with city police.
   

5. Annual Wheelchair Ramp Blitz to provide accessibility improvements to 15 families (abcnews4.com) — Fifteen Lowcountry families, including several in Charleston and North Charleston, are receiving new wheelchair ramps this week through Operation Home’s annual Wheelchair Ramp Blitz. More than 180 Greystar volunteers are building ramps across the Tri-County area, improving safety and accessibility for households with children, seniors, and people with disabilities just in time for the holidays.
