The early-morning West Ashley fire at Grand Oak Apartments was contained to one unit.

An early-morning fire at Grand Oak Apartments on Magwood Drive has displaced three dozen people.

The small fire, which was reported about 12:06 a.m. Saturday, was contained to one apartment, according to ABC4. But the sprinkler system activated, damaging three three dozen units and kicking 36 people out of their homes.

The Lowcountry American Red Cross said 14 of those people are staying with friends and family. But Red Cross officials said they are in the process of setting up a shelter of Grace on Ashley Baptist Church to house and feed those displaced. Additional assistance will be given following the basic needs being met.
