Lawyer: Senator's Ethics Charges A Result of 'Well-Intentioned Errors'

Longtime senator's mistakes were honest ones, according to counsel.

The Associated Press first reported that Sen. Robert Ford (D-Charleston) was facing ethics charges from the Senate Ethics Committee. On Thursday, the AP said that Ford's attorney were a result of 'well-intentioned errors."

Ford's attorney William Runyon said that the errors were due to the cumbersome amount of paperwork related to his client's re-election campaign.

Runyon said, "It was much simpler when he first got elected."

Ford was first elected in 1992.

Ford is facing seven charges and should the Senate Ethics Committee find him in violation he could be forced to pay $2,000 per occurrence.
