Update: Missing Richland County Father Found Safe

Anyone with information about Mark Barnes II should call 911 immediately.

Update: A 10-month-old who, along with his father, was reported missing and last seen on Thursday has been located, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. 

Mark Barnes III was returned overnight to his mother by a family friend, said sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson. The child is OK.

The child's father, 26-year-old Mark Barnes II, is still missing, Wilson said. 

Mark Barnes II, who Sheriff Leon Lott said suffers from serious medical conditions that place him at risk, was last seen at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Forest Acres area.

He may be driving a black 2000 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck with SC license plate U26773. The vehicle has a black toolbox in the bed and damage to the front passenger side bumper.

Original story, 6:05 p.m. Oct. 4, 2013: The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 26-year-old man and his 10-month-old son.

Mark Barnes II and his son, Mark Barnes III, have been missing since Thursday, Sheriff Leon Lott said. Barnes sent his fiancé a message at 7:30 p.m. saying he and the couple’s biological son were on their way home from downtown Columbia. 

When she arrived to their Carving Trail home in Hopkins around 8:30 p.m., she found that dinner was left on the stove and that Barnes and their son were not there, Lott said. There has been no response to text messages or phone calls since Thursday.

Barnes, who Lott said suffers from serious medical conditions that place him at risk, was last seen at 4 p.m. in the Forest Acres area.
