Rabid skunk reported in Greenville County (thejournalonline.com) — Health officials have confirmed a rabid skunk in Greenville County near Plum Orchard Court and Farmbrook Way in Simpsonville, where one person was exposed and a dog was euthanized after injuries. Residents are urged to avoid contact with wild or stray animals, keep pets’ rabies vaccinations current, and call the state’s 24-hour rabies line if they suspect exposure.

Gold Line of Swamp Rabbit Trail officially opens (foxcarolina.com) — A new two-mile Gold Line segment of the Swamp Rabbit Trail just opened in Travelers Rest, improving connections between neighborhoods, schools, and the YMCA. Greenville County Schools are partnering with trail planners on future expansions, including a Fountain Inn link that will tie Bryson Elementary and Fountain Inn High into the broader Swamp Rabbit network.

These major Greenville SC area projects for 2026 will bring new restaurants, homes, jobs & more (thestate.com) — Major construction and redevelopment projects across Greenville and Greenville County are set to reshape daily life in 2026, bringing new jobs, housing, and entertainment. From a semi-pro soccer stadium in Mauldin to the billion‑dollar County Square overhaul, plus new townhomes, apartments, and tech-focused spaces, these developments will add restaurants, shops, and community venues throughout the city and nearby areas.
   

4. Columbia-based chess program expands to Charleston schools, aims to broaden who plays the game (postandcourier.com) — A Columbia-based nonprofit chess academy that already runs programs in 10 Greenville schools is expanding into Charleston, aiming to reach more students and especially more girls. Coaches say the 12-week after-school sessions build critical thinking, confidence, and life skills like patience and planning, and the group hopes to add more schools across the Upstate, Midlands, and Lowcountry next year.
