- A 7-year-old girl was injured in a shooting incident in nearby Bluffton, resulting in the arrest of a father and son. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office reported that a white SUV fired shots toward an apartment building, hitting the girl who was outside at the time. The shooting was believed to stem from a previous fight between two men, leading to the arrest of Carlos Joaquin Anchorena, 23, and Carlos Isaac Anchorena, 45, both facing multiple charges including assault, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and breach of peace. - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has issued a no-trespass order for all Beaufort County school properties to David Cook, who had previously thrown chicken feed at school board members and harassed Hilton Head Island Middle School teachers. The order, effective immediately, restricts Cook's access to school campuses, allowing only pick-up and drop-off of his children, with any additional access requiring permission from the Director of Protective Services. Violation of the order may lead to criminal charges, and Cook will still be permitted to attend school board meetings. (Subscription: Hilton Head Island Packet)
- Starting this week, the Town of Hilton Head Island is starting the construction of a new pathway segment on Woodhaven Drive, a priority in their Capital Improvement Program aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety. Expected to last six to eight weeks, the project involves demolishing an existing damaged pathway, making grading and drainage improvements, and constructing a new 10-foot-wide asphalt pathway. During construction, traffic control measures will be in place, and pedestrians and cyclists will be rerouted to Nassau Street and Deallyon Avenue for safety.
