- An emergency shelter has been set up at Ridgeland School in Jasper County for those seeking refuge from Hurricane Idalia. Managed by Jasper County Emergency Services in partnership with local authorities, this shelter can provide temporary accommodation for people and their pets. Avoid calling 911 for shelter inquiries; instead, contact 843-726-4421. If you are evacuating with a pet, check the pet disaster kit checklist first. - Due to the anticipated severe weather from Hurricane Idalia, the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) will hold an eLearning and remote work day today (Aug. 31), with district buildings closed. This will help to prevent makeup days in the future. Extracurricular activities and afterschool programs for these days are canceled, and families experiencing travel or utility issues should contact their child's school. The decision is made in consideration of factors including safety concerns due to projected high winds. (Beaufort County School District via Facebook)
