  1. The firing of former Beaufort County Administrator Eric Greenway was upheld yesterday, following a statement in a public special session from County Council Chairman Joe Passiment. The statement cited specific causes for termination, including Greenway’s failure to follow the statutes on hiring outside contractors, his relationship with a former contractor turned employee, and his disregard for the county’s procurement process. Chairman Passiment further emphasized that Greenway disregarded spending rules, at the expense of the county. (Subscription: Hilton Head Island Packet)
  2. On Sunday, Sep. 10, a woman caught a four-foot shark off nearby Tybee Island. While fishing off the Tybee Island pier, the local woman enlisted the help of several other beachgoers to reel in what was determined to be a black tip shark. She ultimately set the shark free afterward. (WSAV-TV)
  3. As part of Hilton Head Island's Capital Improvement Program, Folly Field Beach Park will be closed temporarily. The closure is related to construction on a brand-new boardwalk at the Folly Field Beach Park, which began on Sep. 11. During the construction-related closure, parking, and access to the beach will be unavailable—the boardwalk is expected to open by Nov. 17. (WJCL-22)
