- Bernard Garvin, 31, of Hilton Head, has been arrested and transported to Beaufort County after allegedly shooting a woman in the head during an altercation in the parking lot of Hilton Head Gardens apartments in June. The victim, 32-year-old Ashley Thomas, had filed a lawsuit against the apartment complex in mid-August, claiming it failed to provide adequate security measures, working surveillance cameras, and warnings about the property's history of crime. Garvin faces charges of attempted murder and firearm-related offenses and is currently in custody awaiting a bond hearing. (Subscription: The Island Packet)
- A tragic incident in Beaufort County resulted in a child's death and two adults injured following a shooting at Cross Creek Apartments around noon on Sunday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a severely injured 26-year-old woman who was transported to the hospital. Later, it was discovered that a 25-year-old man and a 3-year-old child, who ultimately succumbed to injuries, were also victims of the shooting during a domestic dispute involving a child exchange. Authorities are seeking 27-year-old Jonathan Tyleke Fair for questioning and encourage anyone with information to contact them. (WTOC)
- Jill Fernandez, a fourth-grade teacher at Hilton Head Island Elementary, shares her love for Elvis Presley with her students, incorporating his music and lessons about his impact on the music world into her classroom while emphasizing the importance of respect and kindness through the golden rule. Fernandez recently stated that she couldn't imagine doing anything other than teaching. After transitioning to a teaching career over a decade ago, she finds joy in helping students grasp various subjects and cherishes those moments when they finally understand the content.
