2 Lexington One Seniors Named Semifinalists in National Scholarship Competition

The students have the chance to continue in the competition ofr National Achievement Scholarships.

Two Lexington County School District One students recently earned recognition as 2013 National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists.

Lexington High student Madeline Johnson and White Knoll High student Jordan Gunn are two of more than 1,6000 black American seniors from across the country who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for scholarships.

About 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $2.5 million will be offered next spring.

More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the United States requested consideration in the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Achievement Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists are designated within geographic regions and are the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that make up each region.

To be considered for a National Achievement Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 80 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win an Achievement Scholarship award.Β
