Amazon Holds Ribbon-Cutting for West Columbia Plant

The company is hiring more employees now that the rest of its facility is open.

The Amazon fulfillment center in West Columbia is officially complete. 

Political and business leaders gathered at the facility Tuesday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the 1.2 million-square-foot building.

Amazon hired 500 people last year when the first half of the facility opened, according to a report from WACH Fox. Now that the rest of the facility is complete, .

Amazon Vice President Mike Roth put the size of the facility in perspective during a press conference at the facility Tuesday, according to WACH Fox. Every football field in the SEC could fit inside the facility, Roth said, and there would still be room for the Gamecocks' baseball stadium. 

The company plans to open another plant in Spartanburg in the fall.
