Obituary: Ester Ree Powell

Mrs. Ester Ree Powell peacefully passed away at her home and entered into eternal rest at 1:30 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012.

Mrs. Powell was born and raised in Lexington, S.C. on October 11, 1913 to the late John Henry Taylor, Sr. and Minnie Hendrix Taylor. Mrs. Ester accepted Christ as her Savior at Spring Hill A.M.E. Church of Gilbert, South Carolina at an early age. She strongly believed that with God's help all things are possible through Christ Jesus who strengthens. She served as a member of the missionaries and an usher.

Ester, the matriarch of her family and church, will forever be remembered by her devoted daughter: Carolyn (Larry Sr.) Green, of Lexington, SC and step daughter Carmella Powell of Simpsonville, SC; treasured grandsons, Larry Jr (Gloria) Green of Lexington, SC, Miguel (Valarie) Green of Atlanta, Georgia, James B. Adams, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC and Wesley E. Adams of Columbia, SC; cherished great grandsons, Larry Green III of the home and Miguel Green II of Atlanta, Georgia; lovely sisters, Daisy Brannon and Tiny Jones both of Lexington SC; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Taylor of New Brunswick, New Jersey and Thelma Strother of Lexington, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins as well as her traveling companion, Lessie Leaphart.

Funeral services will be at Spring Hill AME Church in Gilbert, SC at noon on Tuesday, June 26 with Rev. China presiding.
