Obituary: Jacqueline Huot David

LEXINGTON - Jacqueline Huot David (3-5-1918 to 9-6-2012) was born in Brookline, MA to Oscar and Isabelle Guillet Huot. Jacqueline was in the first class of women to graduate from Columbia University school of Dental Hygiene, was chosen to work with American Aid to France after World War II to teach Dental Hygiene due to her fluency in French, and subsequently taught Dental Hygiene at the University of California, San Francisco where she was Dean of Women Students.

She married her life partner Dr. Wilfred David, M.D., USPHS and became a mother in San Francisco, remaining active in professional, church and community organizations throughout her life in Washington, DC, Connecticut and Birmingham, Alabama. For 30 years in Birmingham Jacqui and Will were active members and volunteers who took on leadership roles in the Birmingham Opera, Alliance Française, Birmingham Museum of Art, The Retired Officers Association (Military Officers Association of America), UAB, Friendship Force International, Friends of the Vestavia Hills Library, the Vestavia Historical Society, and Newcomer's Gourmet Club. Jacqui was an active member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church Choir and Guild and the Vestavia Hills Garden Club. She began a second career in Real Estate in her 60's. They enjoyed numerous world travels well into their 80's. Jacqui moved to Lexington, SC at age 90 to be near family.

Jacqui is predeceased by her late husband, Dr. Wilfred D. David and survived by daughters Suzanne Geiger (Jim) of Dothan, Alabama, and Carole Fuziol (Pierre) of Lexington, SC; special sister and brother-in-law, Mimi and Dick Klein of Boynton Beach, Fl.; grandchildren, Claire (David) Jones (Columbia, SC); Joel Fuziol (Columbia, SC), Shannon Geiger (Dothan, Al), Brittany Geiger (Samuel) (Jerusalem, Israel) and great-granddaughters. Sincere thanks go out to caregivers and staff at Caris NHC Jasmine Unit West Columbia, Oakleaf Village Lexington, to former sitters at Oakleaf Village and to special friends Harriet Cullinan and Rickie Wildes.

A private memorial service will be held Monday at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home of Lexington, SC. Memorials may be made to your local public library, Birmingham Opera or a charity of your choice. Jacqui's "joie de vivre" will be missed, but not forgotten.
