Avtec Breaks Ground on Headquarters in Lexington

The 46,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to be complete in May 2013.

Town, county and regional officials joined Avtec, Inc. leaders Monday morning for a groundbreaking ceremony at the .Β 

Avtec, a communications technology company based in Gilbert, plans to complete its new $6-million headquarters near the intersection ofΒ South Lake Drive and Glassmaster BoulevardΒ by May 2013.Β 

The Central S.C. Alliance, a nonprofit organization that focuses on bringing jobs to the central region of the state, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony Monday.Β

"It’s very exciting when a local company that was founded here over 30 years ago continues to invest and reinvest time and time again," said Central SC Alliance chairman Jim Apple.Β "This multi-million dollar investment represents new jobs for our citizens and new dollars spent in the local community β€”Β all as a result ofΒ Avtec’s success.” 

Lexington Mayor Randy Halfacre and several town council members, as well as Lexington County Council Chairman Bill Banning were also at the ceremony.

Halfacre said it's rare for a municipality like Lexington to attract a manufacturing company because of the challenging tax structure, but town staff worked through the tax structure with other government agencies to bring the company to Lexington.

Avtec will be the anchor company for a 32-acre industrial park planned near I-20 and South Lake Drive, according to the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce blog. Other companies have already looked into building in the park.Β
