Be Careful Out There: Columbia Has Bad Drivers

Think drivers are bad in Columbia? 

You're not alone. 

Columbia is near the bottom of Allstate Insurance Company's list of cities with the best drivers, ranking 134 out of 195. 

The report, which was released this week, ranks the country's biggest cities based on the frequency of car collisions from the company's claims data.

Nationwide, the average driver will experience a crash every 10 years, according to the report. In Columbia, drivers will experience a wreck every 8.6 years. That makes drivers here 16.5 percent more likely to crash compared to the national average.

Sioux Falls, S.D., ranked the number one place for the best drivers, according to the report. The average driver there goes 13.8 years without crashing.

Washington, D.C., ranked the worst. The average driver there crashes every 4.5 years.

The "Allstate America's Best Drivers Report" was created to boost the country's discussion about safe driving, according to a press release from the company. 

So far in 2012, 40 people have died on Lexington County roads, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety. Another 34 people have died on Richland County roads.
