Beautification of I-20, US 378 Interchange to Start in November

Trees, plants, a sign and a fountain will be added to the I-20 and U.S. 378 interchange to welcome people to the town.

Residents and visitors will soon see changes at one of the main entrances into Lexington.

Construction at Interstate 20 and Sunset Boulevard will start in November, with trees, flowers, a fountain and a sign going up to welcome people into Lexington.

The beautification project is part of Phase I of Lexington's Vision Plan, a long-range plan to attract more visitors and make the town more livable for residents.Β

The work at the I-20/Sunset Boulevard entrance, or what the Vision Plan refers to as a "front porch," is being funded by a $620,000 grant from the S.C. Department of Transportation, Lexington County and the Lexington Beautification Foundation.Β 

The town also hopes to spruce up six other "front porches" over the next several years, including:Β

  • Sunset Boulevard and Corley Mill Road
  • Old Cherokee at Sunset Boulevard and North Lake Drive
  • East Main Street and I-20
  • Sunset Boulevard and Augusta Road
  • South Lake Drive and I-20
  • East Main Street at town limits
